TEMPLE (July 12, 2013)?Police were looking for an armed man after a holdup Friday morning at a Temple credit union, the third in less than two years.
The robbery was reported at around 9 a.m. Friday at the Santa Fe Community Credit Union at 1750 West Avenue A in Temple.
Employees say the man, who was tall, white and thin, walked in, displayed a handgun, and escaped with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He was wearing a black short sleeve T-shirt, black slacks, a black ball cap, and eyeglasses
He fled toward the south on foot.
The credit union?s lobby was closed Friday morning because of the robbery, but the drive-thru remained opened.
It?s the third time the credit union has been robbed since October 2011.
On March 30, 2012, a man armed with a handgun robbed the credit union and fled on foot.
He was white, of medium height, has a slender build and was wearing glasses, a light-colored shirt and blue jeans.
He remains at large.
Investigators are asking anyone with information about the robbery or the robber to call the Temple Police Department at (254) 298-5500.
This same credit union was robbed at gunpoint in October of 2011 and the suspect, who?s been dubbed the ?Lone Ranger Bandit,? is also wanted in robberies in Arkansas and Mississippi.
He?s suspected in four bank holdups in Central Texas, alone.
He was dubbed the ?Lone Ranger Bandit? because he wore a Texas Rangers baseball cap while robbing institutions where loans are made, the FBI said.
He walked into banks undisguised and demanded $20, $50 and $100 bills, the FBI said.
He?s also wanted in the Jan. 4, 2012 robbery of the Union State Bank in Round Rock, the July 9, 2012 robbery of the First Bank of Central Texas in Salado and the Aug. 17, 2012 robbery of the FedStar Credit Union in College Station.
Authorities have connected him to robberies were in Benton, Ark.; Tyler, Wichita Falls, and in Madison, Miss., as well.
The ?Lone Ranger Bandit? is white, in his early 30s, 5-foot-7 to 6-feet tall, weighs about 200 pounds and has a medium build.
He has short light brown hair, wears glasses and has a small mole or other type of mark above his right eye.
He?s worn everything from athletic clothing to jeans to business attire during the robberies, and may be driving a maroon Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with a thin white pinstripe around the truck bed, the FBI said.
