5 Reasons Why Travel Accident Insurance Is A Necessity | car ...

When it comes to travel accident insurance, it is highly essential for those travelling inside and outside their country. Since any kind of accidents and mishaps may occur during travelling, travellers should safeguard their economic risks with the aid of travel accident insurance. Although accidents are not usually sought by the insured, they can nevertheless get reimbursed for a portion or whole of the property that they lose while travelling. The following paragraphs outline 5 reasons which make travel accident insurance a necessity.

1.To cover majority health risks during travel, you can avail a travel medical insurance. The coverage includes ?Evacuation? and ?Travel Medical? that provides safety insurance during travelling. This insurance covers any sort of illness, accident or emergency over short term, such as 5 days or long term such as a year.
2.Travel insurance also covers accidental death and dismemberment cases. No matter where you are in the world, you will be provided 24-hour coverage for such cases. The coverage begins when you leave your home or office until you reach your travelling destination. However, eligibility is a must.

3.If you avail an insurance coverage for business travel, your company acts as the guarantor for your insurance.

4.Travel insurance only covers the conditions specified under the policy and nothing beyond. All losses, policies, and conditions must be specified in the policy and should have the agreement of the insurer and the insured. Any exceptions cannot be covered by the insurance as per the insurance policy. Many times, activities, which may be harmful or dangerous, are not covered by insurance firms because that increases their chances of incurring a loss. In addition, deadly incidents such as diseases, non-accidental bacterial infections, and self-destruction or suicide attempts are not covered by the travel accident insurance. This prevents insurers to obtain insurance for self-harming activities.

5.Majority Travel Accident Insurance Plans set payments in accordance to the amount agreed upon to the benefactor that you select. In cases such as accidental death or other unpredictable incidents, the benefactor receives the payment on your behalf. You can also change your benefactor with prior notification after all the insurance procedures have been completed. For cases of accidental death, your benefactor will generally be paid a lump sum amount of cash. If your benefactor wishes, he or she can deposit the entire sum or a portion of it to any of your established personal account. Money can be withdrawn against checks when required.

Travel insurance has numerous benefits to you as a traveller, especially if you do not know the kind of travel you are headed for. Any unforeseen hazards or incidents will be covered and compensated by the insurance company providing they satisfy the agreed terms. So, if you are travelling to a foreign region, make sure you have travel insurance so that your travelling proves to be beneficial. Although we don?t look forward to hazards or accidents, insurance gives us a coverage that, even though, may not restore the actual value of the loss incurred, especially in accidental deaths or dismemberment, but can minimize the loss by allowing a decent compensation.

Movie sleepers | Arts & Entertainment | South Philly Review

Batman and Spider-Man had better watch their backs ? these potential hits are ready to steal away audiences.

With ?The Hunger Games? having just enjoyed one of the biggest opening weekends ever (it pulled in a whopping $155 million domestically), Hollywood proved that tentpole films don?t have to be released in the summer. But that doesn?t mean the warmer seasons aren?t still the chief sources for soon-to-be blockbusters ? the usual mega-budget genre fare and effects extravaganzas. This spring and summer will see the releases of ?The Avengers,? ?Men in Black III,? ?Prometheus,? ?The Amazing Spider-Man,? and ?The Dark Knight Rises,? to name a few.

But what about the underdogs? For every Batman installment, there?s a modestly budgeted dramedy ready to court its own audience. The buzz-builders of 2011 included ?Midnight in Paris? and ?Bridesmaids.? Here?s what could follow suit in ?12:

?

High School

(April 20)

Never underestimate a good stoner comedy. ?High School? is the feature debut of filmmaker John Stalberg, Jr., and it features Adrien Brody as Psycho Ed, an extreme pothead who, in aiding a high school valedictorian, strives to intoxicate every student. Early buzz out of Sundance is overwhelmingly positive, and the film could prove to have crossover between critics and the key demographic of young men.

LOL

(May 4)

A remake of a ?08 French film, ?LOL? promises to be an ultra-contemporary coming-of-age flick, with Miley Cyrus sowing her oats as a young girl coping with break-ups and mommy issues. Squarely targeted at the texting generation, the film also stars ?Twilight? alum Ashley Greene, and it?s backed by new ?Hunger Games? super-studio, Lionsgate. If nothing else, fans will want to catch Cyrus behaving badly, in the film that cut pot-smoking scenes after related video of the starlet circulated two years back.

The Dictator

(May 11)

The third film from cha-meleonic provocateur Sacha Baron Cohen, ?The Dictator? is reportedly inspired by Saddam Hussein?s novel ?Zabibah and the King,? and features Baron Cohen as Admiral General Aladeen, a leader ?heroically? saving his people from democracy. Directed by ?Borat? and ?Br?no? helmer Larry Charles, ?The Dictator? offers another edition of its star?s gonzo, subversive brand, and its political nature may just push the right box office buttons.

Bachelorette

(June 1)

?

Following in the footsteps of ?Bridesmaids? is ?Bachelorette,? another wedding-themed femme comedy about three mean girls (Kirsten Dunst, Isla Fisher and Lizzy Caplan) taking on wedding-party duties for the engaged frenemy (Rebel Wilson) they tortured in high school. Written and directed by Leslye Headland and produced by Will Ferrell, the vicious indie is bound to thrive on word of mouth.

Bel Ami

(June 8)

(AP) ? The bodies of three women and two men have been found in a home across the street from a private high school in a quiet neighborhood and police are investigating the deaths as a possible murder-suicide.

A woman with access to the house discovered three of the bodies around 8 a.m. Friday, police said.

She found one man shot to death in the foyer by the front door, said Police Chief Greg Suhr. She then saw a man and a woman dead in the garage before running out and calling police.

When officers arrived, they found the other two deceased women. Police spokeswoman Cmdr. Lyn Tomioka said at least two of the victims were shot, and investigators were still looking into how the others died.

"It's kind of frightening. It's usually quiet over here," said Mark Wong, 45, who lives on the next block. "Nothing like this has ever happened before."

The identities haven't been released but police said that at least four of the people were related.

Tomioka stopped short of confirming it was a murder-suicide but said no suspects were being sought outside the home.

"We do not believe we have a suspect at large," she said. "We do believe at this stage that this incident is specific to this address."

Police said Friday evening there was no new information to release in the investigation.

The neighborhood in the southern part of the city is home to Lick-Wilmerding High School and San Francisco's City College, in addition to a thriving immigrant community, largely from Asia.

Mayor Ed Lee called the incident a terrible tragedy.

"As the San Francisco Police Department thoroughly investigates this incident, I extend, on behalf of the city, our support and sympathy to all family members and friends of the victims involved in this crime," Lee said in a statement.

Investigators believe all of the victims lived in the orange, two-story home in the Ingleside District.

Rick Moody, 50, who lives across the street, said his wife heard some shouting late at night.

"We're surprised that it happened in our neighborhood," he said. "This area is very safe."

A large number of people have either one or two holiday destinations which they go to each year because they have never had any issues with it. By doing this though they might never discover that there are places which they will find much more enjoyable such as Turkey. Way too many people don?t consider Turkey for a holiday despite it having a similar climate to Portugal and Spain and also despite it having a mixture of culture, stunning scenery and activities for the whole family.

Obviously one very important factor for a family holiday is that it is nice and warm. Turkey has a similar climate to Spain and Portugal so people will definitely not be disappointed on that front. There are also plenty of ways for families to make the most of the sunny climate and one of the best is spending time at one of Turkey?s beautiful golden beaches either relaxing or doing water sports.

A trip to Bodrum is a brilliant thing to do for any family staying in Turkey. Bodrum is a very beautiful place and its streets are like a maze. The biggest attraction in Bodrum though is the Castle of St. Peter which families are sure to enjoy. The castle is huge and great fun to explore and it also houses its own underwater archaeology museum.

Cameroon Elephant Massacre Shows Poaching, Ivory Trade Require an International Response

Less than a month ago Bouba N?Djida National Park in northeastern Cameroon was home to 450 elephants. Today, at least half of those elephants are gone, slaughtered by armed horsemen who traveled hundreds of kilometers, probably from Sudan, to kill the animals for their valuable ivory tusks. So many elephants were killed during a two-week period that park officials had to stop counting the carcasses and put their resources into trying to preserve the few remaining animals.

Cameroon sent 150 soldiers into the park on March 1, but the damage had already been done. ?The forces arrived too late to save most of the park?s elephants, and were too few to deter the poachers,? Natasha Kofoworola Quist, director of the World Wildlife Fund?s (WWF) Central Africa program, said during a press teleconference on March 15. One soldier had been murdered by poachers by that time and at least 20 more elephants had been killed, despite the military presence. The raiders have also extended their poaching beyond the confines of the park, killing elephants in nearby forests.

Before this slaughter began, the park held 95 percent of Cameroon?s savanna elephants (Loxodonta africana), representing 80 percent of that species? remaining population in all of central Africa. The country also holds an estimated 1,500 to 5,000 forest elephants (Loxodonta cyclotis).

According to Richard Carroll, vice president of WWF U.S. Africa Programs, the Sudanese raiders travel more than 1,000 kilometers through Chad and the Central African Republic, where they have already wiped out all of those countries? elephants, to get to Cameroon?s animals. It?s a journey that has been made for decades, but the meter-long spears they used three decades ago have been replaced with automatic weapons, enabling indiscriminate and more efficient kills. According to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, which visited the park in early March, the poachers have slaughtered both adult and juvenile infant elephants, often hacking off their trunks and tusks with machetes while the animals were still alive. The bodies of infant elephants too young to even have tusks have also been found.

It is expected that the poachers will soon travel back to Sudan, carrying the ivory on horseback and on camels, where they will be sold in the markets at Khartoum before heading to their most likely destination: China. There, the tusks will be carved and sold around the world, despite the fact that the international ivory trade has been banned since 1988. The money raised in the Khartoum markets will likely be used to buy more weapons, further feeding the civil war that plagues that country.

As Quist said during the teleconference, ?This is not just a wildlife issue, and it is not just a Cameroon issue. This is a global issue.?

Bouba N?Djida National Park is not normally protected and its rangers are unarmed. Cameroon has unprotected, ?porous? borders with Chad, the Central African Republic and other nations.

WWF has asked Cameroon to take whatever steps necessary to protect the remaining elephants in the park, and to engage the governments of Chad and Sudan to prosecute the border-crossing criminals.

The Daily Mail has several graphic photos of the slain elephants here. (The images may be disturbing to some readers.)

(AP) ? Famed Georgia sportswriter Furman Bisher, who covered everything from major golf tournaments to the Triple Crown during a career that spanned six decades, died Sunday of a massive heart attack outside Atlanta. He was 93.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Bisher's death on its website Sunday evening (http://bit.ly/AqFVbu ). Former AJC editor Jim Minter said family members told him that Bisher had planned to watch golf at home on Sunday but complained of feeling ill, at which point his wife Lynda called 911. He died at a nearby hospital.

"He put more quality words on newsprint than any other writer in the last half of the 20th century," Minter said late Sunday, according to the newspaper. "He never wrote a bad column."

Bisher retired in 2009 after 59 years at the Georgia newspaper, writing his final column on the same typewriter he used in 1950.

At his retirement, Bisher said: "I just decided that's enough ? I had been thinking about it a couple weeks. I wanted to get it done, get it over with, and as far as I'm concerned it's no big deal. I just won't be writing a column."

The North Carolina native wrote hundreds of articles for national magazines including Sports Illustrated and the Saturday Evening Post. He also authored several books, including an autobiography of baseball great Hank Aaron.

Born Nov. 4, 1918 in Denton, N.C., James Furman Bisher began his career in 1938 at the Lumberton Voice in his home state and became an editor at the Charlotte News two years later. In 1949, "Shoeless" Joe Jackson gave Bisher and Sport Magazine his only interview since being ousted from baseball 30 years earlier in the "Black Sox" scandal.

Bisher received numerous awards over his career, including the Red Smith Award for sports journalism and the William D. Richardson Award from the Golf Writers Association of America. Last year he was an inaugural inductee into the Atlanta Press Club's Hall of Fame.

Bisher was a father of three sons, one of whom had died.

After his official retirement, Bisher continued to write occasionally for the Journal-Constitution and to cover golf tournaments. He was looking forward to reporting on the Masters tournament, which he had covered every year since 1950.

"Mr. Bisher was as passionate about the AJC in his final days as he ever was," AJC sports editor Ray Cox said in a statement. "And he was always a perfect Southern gentleman. He was first and foremost a journalist but one whose ability to write far surpassed the skills of most of us who came into the business hoping to emulate him."

Annan warns of regional fallout after Damascus blasts

Two huge bomb blasts killed at least 27 people in Syria's capital, as special envoy Kofi Annan warned of regional fallout from the year-long bloodshed.

An Arab diplomat told AFP Saudi Arabia has started delivering arms to Syrian rebels through Jordan, a claim denied by Amman, while rival Iran is already suspected of sending weapons to its Syrian regime allies.

State television said the early morning "terrorist" attacks, apparently car bombings timed minutes apart, had targeted police headquarters in the Duwar al-Jamarek area and air force intelligence offices in Al-Qasaa district.

The explosions killed 27 people, mainly civilians, and wounded 140 civilians and security personnel, the interior ministry said.

As angry residents vented their fury at Arab supporters of anti-regime activists, the state broadcaster ran footage of a charred body inside the mangled remains of a smouldering vehicle in Duwar al-Jamarek.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon denounced the bomb blasts and urged an end to the violence.

Extending his condolences to the bereaved families, "the secretary general calls for all violence to cease immediately," a statement released by his office said.

From Paris, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said: "France condemns all acts of terrorism, which cannot be justified under any circumstances."

France has been at the forefront of calls for Assad to quit.

Egypt's Foreign Minister Mohammed Kamel Amr affirmed Cairo's "fixed position against terrorism in any form, regardless of the reasons behind it."

Bombings have hit Syria's major cities in recent months, provoking mounting concern that Al-Qaeda has taken advantage of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad.

Syria's opposition, however, has accused the regime of stage-managing the attacks.

Commentators on state television blamed Qatar and Saudi Arabia, Assad's fiercest Arab critics over his regime's deadly crackdown on dissent since March 2011. Both countries have called for rebels to be armed.

"Saudi Arabia is sending us terrorists," a resident of the devastated areas said on television.

Another said "these are the friends... of the Istanbul council," referring to the opposition Syrian National Council set up in the Turkish city last August.

An Arab diplomat told AFP that Saudi Arabia, which closed its embassy in Damascus this week, was delivering military equipment to Syrian rebels.

"Saudi military equipment is on its way to Jordan to arm the (rebel) Free Syrian Army," the diplomat said, on condition of anonymity. "This is a Saudi initiative to stop the massacres in Syria."

    Jordan rejected the report.

"Jordan categorically denies the report," government spokesman and information minister Rakan Majali told AFP. "This is completely baseless."

Iraq, another neighbour of Syria, has informed Tehran it will not allow arms shipments to the country to pass through or over its territory, Baghdad government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh said on Saturday.

The United States has said it was concerned that Iranian cargo flights over Iraq to Syria could be carrying arms to help Damascus crush protests.

Tehran on Saturday condemned the Damascus blasts, blaming them on unnamed countries supplying arms to Syrian rebels, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported.

On Friday, UN-Arab League peace envoy Annan warned of a regional "escalation" of the Syria conflict and urged the UN Security Council to close ranks to put pressure on Assad.

The former United Nations chief, who met Assad in Damascus last weekend, has ordered a team of UN experts to Syria to discuss a possible ceasefire and international monitoring mission, his spokesman said.

Permanent Security Council members Russian and China have twice vetoed Security Council resolutions on the Syrian crisis that they said were unbalanced.

Syria's foreign ministry said the country would cooperate with Annan and at the same time pursue its crackdown on "armed terrorist gangs" it blames for the bloodshed.

Thousands of anti-government protesters called on Friday for foreign military intervention as the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 18 people were killed nationwide.

In London on Saturday, British photographer Paul Conroy -- wounded in a bombardment in Homs last month that killed his Sunday Times colleague Marie Colvin and French photographer Remi Ochlik -- also urged military intervention.

"It's about life and death now. We must put enclaves in place, defend them from the air and the ground and save lives. Diplomacy, I'm afraid, has had its chance. It's failed," Conroy told the BBC.

In Washington, thousands of protesters gathered outside the White House to demand that the United States "stop the massacre in Syria."

The Britain-based Observatory said funerals were held on Saturday for two people killed during a Friday protest at Al-Raqqa in the northeast and security forces opened fire on mourners, killing another two people.

Huge rallies in support of Assad were held in Damascus and other major cities on Thursday to mark the first anniversary of the uprising that monitors say has cost more than 9,100 lives in 12 months.

Apart from Annan's technical team, the UN and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation are to send experts to Damascus on a Syrian government-led humanitarian mission to protest cities devastated in shelling by security forces.

The team members will head to Damascus from New York and Geneva on Monday, Annan's spokesman said.

Can innovation help the NHS in London through the economic downturn?

On Wednesday 22nd February 2012, the three London HIECs? held a collaborative symposium? where 119 delegates had the opportunity to hear the latest thinking on this issue from leading experts.
The keynote speakers were, Professor the Lord Ara Darzi, Christine Outram and Paul Corrigan. Their speeches were well received and generated many questions from the audience.? This was followed in the afternoon with a facilitated workshop around the HIECs? projects where delegates were invited to consider? and discuss the following two questions:

    1. Which two projects do you think will improve the efficiency of the NHS in London the best?

    2. What are the two best ways in which the NHS can ensure that these innovations are spread with speed across most of the NHS in London?

The three most identified projects that delegates thought would improve efficiency in the NHS in London were:

    1. Asthma (My Asthma Log Android Application).

    2. Telemonitoring.

This 1-day conference will consider the state-of the-art conceptualisation and treatment of low?self-esteem, with a particular focus on recent developments in compassion-based approaches. This conference is being held on 16th April 2012 from 09:00-13:45 at the University of Reading.? Contact cwi@reading.ac.uk for further details.
